Discovery Links Cancer and Gene December 10, 2007

A new study sheds light on a gene and its ability to supress tumors or not.

Like many other tumor suppressor genes, BRCA1 regulates the cycle of cell division by keeping cells from growing and dividing too rapidly or in an uncontrolled way.

In particular, it inhibits the growth of cells that line the milk ducts in the breast.

CNN’s Elizabeth Cohen reports on research that could show why women with a certain gene run a higher risk of cancer. Click here to see the video.
